Caring for aging parents can be a difficul time as we become the caretakers for our parents. I'm so relieved that mom has moved into a new apartment within the same neigborhood. She's only about a five minute walk away from my home. Much has been accomplished over the past week regarding the moving process, and you can't imagine how many personal belongings my mother has. It became apparent that she hardly ever threw anything away over the years, which meant the new apartment would soon be overcrowded.
However, we were able to convince mom that some things had to be discarded. I'm proud that she was able to realize the necessity of this. Day by day, we continue unpacking, saving, and discarding items to provide her with a comfortable, and safe living environment. An added benefit is that she's able to socialize with other seniors, and she goes on quite a few day trips. The apartment building also provides 24 hour security protection which is great.

Moving is never an easy chore even if someone is not a packrat!! However, it does simplify things quite a bit if they are not:)

When I go down in the elevator then it takes me only two minutes or less to walk to my mom's apartment.
But now she no longer wants to live alone and is insisting on moving in here with me........sigh...... our previous situation was SO great - me in my little apt and her in her little apt but now she wants to become my 'roomy' and I am DREADING it as the two of us never got along at all. Oh well, as Laurie says I must look at the fact that it is only a temporary situation so right now....I am clinging onto that life raft like crazy just to try to stay mentally afloat.....
