Mom received scam phone call

somebody tried to steal moms money by saying it was her grandson and hed had a car wreck hitting someone who was seven months pregnant and he was in jail. She was told to call lawyer and she called. The lawyer tried to get her to western union money to bail him out of jail but made fatal mistake thinking that my nephew drove. Said he was driving and hit the girl. My nephew doesnt have drivers license. He doesnt drive. Mom called my sister who told her it was scam. Lawyer told her not to tell anyone as didnt want others to know he was in jail.


my God! What they will try next?


good thing mom at 92 is still sharp.

I have gotten different versions of this one; a "friend" was in Europe and lost his wallet, would I send him some money to get home?

Sigh. All it takes is one person to fall for it and they can make hundreds if not thousands of dollars.

Glad your mom was not taken in.

My mother got a call one day from someone claiming to be from Microsoft that wanted to check her computer; they wanted to remote pc in. She hung up. I was so proud of her.. Scumbags, they're everywhere!

oh yeah that thing where they say that your computer is infected with a virus and they need to access your computer...I hang up too...but something I hate is the stuff that they encrypt your files in your computer and ransom it to allow you back into your computer...they want to have you give them bit coins....which are totally untraceable

Your mom is incredible at 92. I hope my mom is as healthy then. Mom got the microsoft call scam and she got to the point where she was sitting in front of her computer about to respond but then she handed the phone to me and i hung up on the person. Jesus a close call! I think she is the only person that picks up her landline and says "hello?" these days. Too risky. Let it go to voicemail already!

nope she is not alone...my mom too answers her land line phone....
yup she is incredible at 92.....I am proud that she did what she knew was the right thing to call my sister whose supposed son was in jail.....sister quickly told her it was scammer....mom called 911 but the police were not interested in this case....I did reverse look up of the telephone number that they had her call and I guess it was a burner cell phone that was pay as you go or something that can be tossed quickly because the number simply did not show up on reverse 411....

I'm sorry to read of this and so glad your Mom could manage the threat.
This is my fear going forward with my Mom.
For now, she tells any and all unknown callers that she is recording them ans reporting them to the Attorney General.

Dang...that was GOOD of her to catch!!!! Yikes!! My mom would have flipped out!
