Well cheers to your mom for using the silverware everyday. My parents had theirs stolen when they moved to the apartment. I have a set that my inlaws bought for us when we got engaged 24 years ago. I think we have used it twice. What a waste. Maybe some day I will use it everyday.....
I've never heard of fish causing a problem with silverware. Yes silver needs to be cleaned to remove the tarnish which can have an odd taste. You also need to wash it with soapy water after cleaning it because the polish can leave a taste. Overall a lot of work.
Maybe I will stick with my kohls flatware....
