Whether you have just started caring for your parents or just need a place to talk, we're here.
yes. Our lot in life is not easy but there are moments of great joy. It always makes my day when I see how much my Mom and Dad appreciate my cooking.
I made a pot roast yesterday and I thought Mom was going to lick her plate. We took some to Dad today and I know he will enjoy it too
Glad your feeling better and it's good to hear that your mother is feeling better also.
September colds can be the worst and can turn into a bronchitis or pneumonia very quickly. I've had pneumonia twice in my life and both times were in September.....
It's good to have you back here though.
Take Care,
Pam
I have found if I can make it to November without catching cold I can usually get through winter unscathed.
My doctor told me drinking TONS of water and getting good sleep are the best defences
I rarely get sick. I think that it was so bad, because I am so run down. Have had pneumonia before. Oddly, it was in September also.
There are a few people on the unit that mom is on, that are getting very agressive. My brother phoned me yesterday afternoon from mom's place to tell me that mom had a cut across the top of her nose (just so I wouldn't worry when I went to see her).
It turned out that one of the men had swatted mom across the nose with a newspaper and given her a paper cut. It didn't look good but she was ok.
It kind of worries me because when I went on Friday I had to stop a fight between two residents. They were getting quite upset with each other and looked like they were going to get physical.
There was no staff around and I didn't have enough time to push the call button so I persuaded one of them to come and sit with mom and I. He came quietly so all was ok.
The week before there was a fight over jello. Ernest (the one who hit mom and was also involved in the potential fight) was eating Mary's jello. He started stabbing her with a spoon and Mary was fighting back. The staff member just stopped her, before she took a chunk out of Ernest's arm.
A friend says that they should film a reality show on the unit.

I drink water with a water chaser most of the time. And check out the Netti Pot
if you have not been using one If not, It is a saline irrigation device for the sinus.
First sign of a cold I get the thing out and use it a couple times a day for a few.
It lessons my colds etc..Wish I had known of it years ago.
I hope your Mom is still feeling well too. It is hard to get comfort for them at times. Things have to work through a cycle.
So is there just one person being a bully where your Mom stays? I would turn him in to the Director of Nursing. For his safety and everyone else.Maybe his meds are off,not working...etc...?
My Mom has calmed way down since she gets oxygen. How simple that was yet it took a year of misery to convince the DR to allow this. Like we were going to open an Oxygen Bar or what? Sheesh.
