Caring for aging parents can be a difficul time as we become the caretakers for our parents. The reason why I lost it goes with a very long story that seems to lose importance with time, Yet with this time my raising my voice to my Mom really stings me.
She doesn't seem to care. She is very good at arguing and telling people off. But I cant stand it and since Dad died, Mom hasn't really been too hostile. No one to fight with. Plus she gets her way around here. She calls home her assisted living arrangement.
I once thought Mom was playing games to make me upset. Now, I am getting a bigger picture that it is more or less like a TV channel being switched, Dementia. Probably.
Well, the deal is that I have not been taking time out for me...again. It is a rut I get into, I put it off like a procrastinated obligation. I think it is important to share these feelings for myself and all of us who give care/care give etc..
So, since I wanted to yell so much, I decided to go for a drive to see the autumn colors. I put music vol. up as much as I could and sang along for at least 45 minutes. I really felt better. So, I sang more today. Tomorrow I will sing and walk one of the dogs,
The next phase to my stress relief will be to listen more carefully and to steer clear of family drama.
One day at a time though, right?

I am glad you wrote. It seems so familiar and I appreciate not being the only one on the planet who has lost her patients.
