Mom died three days ago. Brother started sending me emails the day after she died. What should happen to credit cards - he had use of them. Who's name goes on insurance, house title, etc. He also needs to know moms taxes for home and other home expences to tell social security. He is on SSI and Medicaid. I am in charge of his special needs trust. That has minimum money allowed in it. Have to talk to banks too. And lawyer of trust. Won't get death certificates for eight to ten days. I know brother is concerned. It's his life. But I really don't feel like working on all these things right now.

DO know this: as soon as the banks hear that she has passed they will FREEZE all her accounts. So if you need money out of them to operate and one of you has signature authority it is best to withdraw money.
Not sure if that is 100% legal or not though.
You might want to contact a lawyer to make sure that you do all the necessary paper work. Their fees can vary based on how much of the leg work you are willing to do.
There are also companies out there that specialize in doing these things for you. For a fee, not for free!
I guess give it few days...it is Saturday nothing much can be done today....put the funeral behind you then jump into those issues I guess I would recommend....
The last thing you want to do when you lose someone is paperwork, but the system forces us to do it anyway. Good luck, get some help, legal help so you don't miss any deadlines. Sending gentle hugs to you.

I would write out a list of actions needing attention that require a copy of the death certificate. Most institutions want an original so if you have a general count up front, you can get the needed copies. That will save you time waiting for another copy to come in the mail or the travel time to the FH.
The sooner you get the paperwork and the required arrangements done, the sooner you can take a step back and relax. There's also a grieving period for you here also, not just your brother. Don't forget to take time for yourself.
