Caring For Aging Parents Support Group
Caring for aging parents can be a difficul time as we become the caretakers for our parents. This broad responsibility can encompass such services as assisted living, adult day care, long term care, nursing homes, hospice care, and in-home care. Whether you have just started caring for your parents or just need a place to talk, we're here.
There were a lot of companies for dad to choose from; my job was to get about 3 of them and set up meetings so he could choose the one he wanted, the one he thought mom would want.
I think that we all have our own issues to deal with as we make that hospice decision; some here were very ready, others of us took quite some time to accept it. The lesson I have taken from that is to not be pushed faster into it than you are ready, and not to be held back more than you are ready, AND that it is a question of what is best for the patient.
Open your heart and mind. Ask questions, do what ever it takes, so that you feel right about what ever you end up doing.
Gentle hugs
Hospice workers can do art therapy, music therapy, some of us have therapy dogs that we bring to visit the patient. We are more than willing to stay with a patient while the caregiver goes out for lunch or some other activity. A lot of people don't know how hospice workers can help.
Good luck. Your family is in my thoughts.
I know they will help you through this.
Hugs..
