I just want to say thanks to everyone who share their lives here. What we learn by experience can bring awesome advice.

Lives really don't have to be the same. We are different in all ways. Yet the caring and breaking down advice as we go has been a tremendous help.

My family is nowhere near to lend a hand. All just deal with Mom and sometimes I wonder how she can go day to day knowing that. She is not without her ability to clearly understand that her kids want little to do with her. Yet I moved in unasked because she could not live by herself. Not well enough unfortunately.

Peaceful you are right...we help each other in all the little things we share.

I'm envious of you in some ways. When my dad was hospitalized I was there for the first week. Then my sister came for a week and then my brother. I was back for another week when it was clear that they weren't ready to be alone yet. Unfortunately my sister did not want to be a team player, she wanted to be the captain. It led to many heart aches for us and for my parents. And now she is worse than ever. My parents have made it clear that she is not their choice to help them make decisions but she refuses to listen. In fact she is now treating them like they are children, insisting that they call her everyday to check in.

So while it is hurtful to have unhelpful children the other extreme is just as bad. Especially when you realize that the child is acting for their own benefit and ego and not as much for your care.

There is a great saying "be careful what you wish for because you just might get it"

All too true on both comments. I am not sure there is a happy solution when a parent becomes unable to look after themselves . I always think that its pretty disgusting when our own siblings take total advantage of our good nature and opt out. These re the people we grew up with !!! Sad too that our parents seem to take us for granted. Still at the end of the day I can look at myself in the mirror each day and know I am doing the right thing. Not many people answer my posts but the good people that do make such a huge difference. No one wants to hear about my dad or how hard it can get for me and him. I am grateful for the objectivity and support I get here. I need it !!!
