Caring for aging parents can be a difficul time as we become the caretakers for our parents. Out of the " mouth-es of elder babes" or the woman I call Mom.
Some place between her pain med and the dementia came the following.
First, realize that Mom often wants to be center of attention. Of course, everyone ignores her all of the time. Yeh right...that is why "everyone" lives here and gave up working so she could stay in her house.
Anyway, one of the neighbors is ill and has been taking walks past our house. I made a mistake of saying how much better he was doing.
Without a pause Mom, jealous of course, says
":ya well, he hasn't earned a Halo yet cuz they're on back order"
Wow Ma. I just found this so spiteful to the point of absurd, yes indeed. But still makes me laugh for some reason. Probably because I am warped by the stress at this point. Ya know? If all this were taken so seriously I would all off the planet dementia as we orbit earth.
Had to share this though because it is real life and I know I am not the only one going through this. So glad the window was closed as the neighbor walked by. LOL

I find it humorous that whenever they are insulting someone they know exactly the right words to use. Never a delay looking for the right word; it just pops out.... Amazing!

Loved your story, I get it.
One day my grandmother was trying to get a dig in on her sister in law. (I'm 60, do the math and you get the time frame.) She was trying to dig her sister in law for "having to get married". It was a huge thing back in her youth, but today nobody cares. But grandma had had a stroke and was slurring her speech. It was funny to hear my aunt asking my grandmother to clarify her point. I think my aunt knew what was being said, she just wanted to make it hard for grandma to insult her.
