Caring For Aging Parents Support Group
Caring for aging parents can be a difficul time as we become the caretakers for our parents. This broad responsibility can encompass such services as assisted living, adult day care, long term care, nursing homes, hospice care, and in-home care. Whether you have just started caring for your parents or just need a place to talk, we're here.
After 3 years of staying with my Mom, I now understand of few of my Dads habits. He would not EVER say this but knew Mom had some kind of dementia. She use to choke, become hysterical etc...so never ate alone.
Now she does as there is medication helping to keep her calm. Plus he is gone and supporting her paranoia is no longer in place.
I have been watching football and found she hates the noise of the game.
So she wont come into my TV room and I have space to enjoy some time alone. Football was not exactly my goal (haha) but will take it.
Anything else on TV she would pick at me about not inviting her to sit and share time together.
On one hand, I hear she is lonesome. On the other, I have nothing to give and it will sound like a bunch of excuses from me.
So having my space is nice but there is a price and she pays it this time.
Anyone have a strategy??
PS. Love the Harbough brothers facing off in Superbowl. This was my hope all along. I will stick with my AFC Ravens... :)

There is nothing wrong with having time for yourself alone! Everyone needs time alone. If you read the bible, even Jesus took the disciples away from the crowds for time away, he went to the vacation spots to have time to recover his strength and energy.
Mom will pay a much worse price if you stop taking time for yourself. No one can be there for another 24/7 without eventually losing some mental ability. She suffers in small ways when you take time for yourself. But that would be much worse if you never recharged your own batteries.
So think of your private "football" time as time to renew your own spirit so mom can get your best when you are with her.
You are doing this to help mom in the long run. Giving up your privacy short term will only cause you and mom more troubles long run.

But if I want to clear her out of the living room I can put ANYTHING else on the TV and she will sceedaddle!!!
Just another coping strategy!
My mom is super lonely now. She says she wants to be left alone but she is on the phone with me constantly. I have a few things that she will respect. Dinner time is one of them. Another is getting away on weekends although sometimes she will call my phone. But if she thinks I should be home to take her call she will leave a really nasty phone message.
At least I have the option of picking up the phone. Don't think I could live with her...they would find me out wandering the highways :)
I also got a chuckle here too. And I SOOO needed to.
Ok so I must confess something. I record several shows she will
never ever watch. She gets up and leaves for her kindle.
One show is Billy The Exterminator. It shows snake removal...bees.
Mom hates them.
Now we do watch a few things. But I try to keep tv off and converse so she will have attention. It is the thing she craves the most in this world.
