Alright, I had to post this because it was just so funny: to me anyway.
My husband's friend came back with Elk meat some months back from a Colorado hunting trip and gave him some. My mother is absolutely paranoid about eating elk or deer. Wanted it double bagged in the freezer etc. Too funny! Sunday my daughter came with her kids for a barbeque. She and DH ground up the meat into elk burgers, added some garlic powder, onion power, coriander. I made some regular hamburgers, no additives for my mother and I and the grandkids. Once everything was cooked we all made plates and sat down to eat. My mother was eating with such gusto that I felt bad; I should have cooked this up earlier.
Anyway, she started commenting how good her burger was, just a hint of garlic and onion; loved THIS burger! Daughter, hubby and I looked at each other; OH Good Lord, she's devouring an elk burger! Bunch of gutless chickens we all were, everyone had their heads down through the meal. I mean telling her she's eating elk meat would have meant a trip to the hospital to have her stomach pumped....
After the dinner she kept asking me to scrub the grill "really" good to make sure there was NO residue of elk meat on it. And I mean haunting me several times to scrub it really, really good... HAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
Maybe others have more experience on the taste of elk meat. I know I'm not trying it to make that determination. Just thought the story was funny!

check out that smoke ring. It tasted really good. I smothered it with Maulls BBQ sauce which is Local to St. Louis and one of the best I ever had.....

Hope the dog days of summer aren't getting you down!

My MIL did not like the concept of left overs when she came to live with us. But to avoid that she would have to have small pre-made meals and then thrown away any left overs. (pre-made meals tend to come loaded with salt though) Even with the 3 of us (me, my wife, and her mother) we struggle to finish even small things that I make. A simple 2 or 3 pound pot roast can last for about 4 or 5 meals for all of us!
Loved your story! At some point, are you going to tell her that she ate some of the elk?
That reminded me so much of "The Help".
Very humorous!
No Pepper I don't think Mom should find out!
I want an elk burger now. You have made me very hungry!
I have had elk steak and elk stew. Both excellent when prepared by the man who shot the meat.
I tried doing elk steak by myself with nor such good luck.
My family went to see that....then of course I went too...but the funny thing is my sister in joking manner asked me if I wanted some pie...LOL
She would consider this a very serious offense against her by DH and I... Oh boy!
We do feel like creeps but it was a matter of the lesser of two evils. We do laugh when we're alone though.. So much for her picky eating habits.
Yup keep it to self....until she steps on toes a bit too hard....they say that payback is a bitch! LOL
