Caring for aging parents can be a difficul time as we become the caretakers for our parents. This broad responsibility can encompass such services as assisted living, adult day care, long term care, nursing homes, hospice care, and in-home care. Whether you have just started caring for your parents or just need a place to talk, we're here.

hey guys --
haven't checked in awhile. things have been crazy with my dad (77) --- have gone from bad to worse. sigh. but i keep trucking along.
he has been in in-patient physical therapysince november. he went in to one facility - was there 2 weeks. they really didn't want to work with him - IMO - sent him home. in a week he was worse than he was. went to the hospital - off to another facility. was doing well -- was a few days from coming home - around christmas time, he got hit with a nasty bug - almost pneumonia. they sent him to the hospital - he was there about a week --- he lost momentum in therapy because of being so sick - and ended up going back after he was discharged from the hospital. got back to work - had a new date to come home, about 2 weeks before his date - he had a huge seizure - lasted 3 hours. back to the hospital - there for about 4 or 5 days to get the seizures under control. the seizure left him even weaker - sigh. so, here we are -- march. he is coming home this weekend -- do they think he is ready? no. why is he --- ran out of time insurance will pay for it.
he lives by himself -- he refuses to look into assisted living - or to move in with us. i live about 10 minutes away.
i've been scrambling to get a stair lift (have it, needs to be installed) - have interviews tomorrow with home aides to come in a few hours a day - i need to go over to clean out the fridge and will need to get groceries and stuff for him -- the list goes on and on.
sometimes i feel like i'm bearly treading water ---
anyone have any tips -- for getting this all to run smoother? lol
any suggestions -- anything i might be missing?
i need to get him signed up with the office of the aging to help with $ for aides. need to look into signing him up for vet benefits --- sigh. soooo much.
any thoughts on good medical alert button service? will medicare pay for an of it?
anyway --- any tips appreciated ;)
