Caring for aging parents can be a difficul time as we become the caretakers for our parents. I went to the DR today after romping around a 7 acre property for a couple of hours.
Lost track of time so went as is. I had a few burrs and stick tights from the brushes.
Mud on my shoe. Red face from being in a cold wind with a thin jacket.
On my way there my thoughts raced. I wasnt dressed for this appointment. I began to get upset over losing track of time by enjoying myself on a nice walk with great people. (huh?) Then to my surprise I realized that the only reason I could go for a nice romp in the woods was that my Mom was doing better, for today,
I walked into my appointment so happy. Left a few stick tights on my sleeve to go with my wind burned face. All signs that this was a good day for Mom and me.
The DR enjoyed my new look, my BP and relief about Mom ( who is a bit better for now). I have lost a few pounds and have better blood sugar too.
When I came home Mom said " you didnt go looking like THAT to the DR?"

While I muse it is obvious that a lot of my Moms negativity slips into my thinking. Not such a good thing but natural and comes from not taking a few moments to myself during the day to relax, tend to my needs. I am wondering what to do about having this time at times when Mom requires more supervision and help.
Summer time was a rough time.
How does one hire someone to sit with parent and know they are safe?
Any comments?

I haven't gotten to that point yet but it is in the back of my mind. My parents are 2,000 miles away and I have looked into having a case manager who would check on them periodically. Usually these are nurses who will come to the house once a month to do a home check and take vitals. They are a great set of eyes who can report on changes.
My brothers MIL used to do home care where she lived with people who needed assistance. She probably had LPN type training. In return for a place to live and a small salary she provided companionship, cooking and cleaning.
There is also adult day care in some areas. And senior centers that have day programs.
Depending on the level of care that your mom needs there are lots of options. Just remember to be firm in what you decide.

Look into Rescare fro someone to check on your Mom. Glad yoou are both doing better.
Sorry for the glum news, but you must be very careful with this type of thing.
