Hi, being new here, I think I would get some help regarding my dad’s illness. He is 60 and is suffering from dementia and diabetes. He hardly takes food and medicines and doesn’t allow us to appoint a caretaker. Last week, he fell down from the stairs. I am in a helpless situation and can’t extend my leave anymore. While having a talk with my colleague he told me about some medical monitoring devices Calgary which allows medical help to the elders with the single press of a button. What if he presses the button for no reason? I am new to such systems and don’t know how much effective it would be. I prefer to have my father always monitored under safe hands. I wish I get some tips here. Is there someone who faces the same?

Yes, there are buttons. They range from simple buttons that simply summon help via local emergency services, to ones that have 2-way communication with operators who can asses the situation, to ones that have built in fall detection logic and will connect with the operators even if your father does not press the button.
There are a lot more in between things that you can consider. Most services I researched had options where an operator could contact a third party (like you or some other family member) for confirmation before sending help. I would assume that a person who keeps pushing the button for no reason will be considered on a case by case basis.
At some point we have to accept that our parent(s) have become incapable of living alone, and we must force them into different living conditions. If you have siblings, then please keep talking to them about what is going on, and discuss options for his care.
