Those things are worth a try I suppose but a lot of seniors sure embarrassed by them and refuse to actually use them. My mom does not have one but we don't leave her alone for very long periods in time that often. And when we do we have companions from Home Instead stay with her for four hours a day to make sure she has food and some company.

They are wonderful. We are going to a football game this Sunday.

We will drop her off to visit with Dad in the morning and the home instead lady will pick her up after church buy her a subway on the way home and stay until she is ready to go to sleep!

That sounds great. Your Mom goes along with this?? My Mom still wants the car back and I know she would try to drive. She is so mad about losing her independence. But for a year now is hyper critical about my being gone for 6-8 hours. Also said if she weren't afraid of the dark she would be fine living alone. I picked up on the word afraid and realized she was afraid alone so long. But now that we speak about it and I let my nephew borrow the car for his youngsters she is a mean-ss woman. Whew. All her refined education has flown the coupe and the bar room brawl has begun!!

I know it is the change in routine getting to her. Time will pass and I will also see about the Home Instead, I had forgotten that actually and am so glad you reminded me.

Mom LOVES the home instead ladies! They make an effort to match ppl with a companion with similar interests. My mom likes to talk about horses and cats and enjoys being able to speak French and Spanish with someone. She likes someone who speaks softly.

HI has managed to fix her right up with all of those wishes between three different ladies.

I'm sorry your mom is still in the angry phase. My mom was HORRIBLE in the months preceding her move across the country to be with us!

She's almost blind and has not been able to drive for many years and she does not wander and now that she has gotten over the anger of leaving her former life being she has become quite the jolly little elf!

I hope something like that will happen for you one day as well.

Is it possible to get her to a local senior center to interact with other people her age? I got my dad to go there. He plays pool, cards, and has lunch, has made many friends and is much happier now.
I am even joining in 2013 to sing and get to know others my age. Never too soon to make friends and ask others so I don't end up all alone trapped in my home in isolation with just one child with which to spend time.

She can make friends who can pick her up and drive her.
I don't know about the alert systems. Dad would never consider anything that proves he is old.

Sorry, I am talking about a senior activity center NOT day care for seniors. There is a difference
