My wife goes to a surgeon this morning for a hernia. I know that these types of operations are common anymore. But her strength isn't very good. She's weak most of the time. I fear that her recovery may take a long time. I am prepared to care for her. Last year her health began to decline. Its been a struggle to see her so. I am scared for her, though she does not know that. I try to save face and be strong. She doesn't see my tears. Now we've found out that she has a spot on her lung. It may be only TB or a number of other things but nonetheless it scares me. She sees a dr for that in a few more days. I feel alone, but strengthened through my faith in God that He will do His will for her...whatever His will for her is, will be.

My heart goes out to you. It is so difficult to see someone you have so much love for in pain. As caregivers we stay as strong as we can and do our best to hide our fears and tears. It wears on us each and every day. We cannot heal them or take their pain away. All we can do is love them, be there for them in every way possible, and help them out as much as they allow. I really hope the spot in her lung isn't anything serious. It's hard to stay hopeful when the hits keep coming.

Stay as strong as you can and take those moments to cry and, if need be, scream. Take care of yourself as we'll as your wife.

My wife is doing better than I am. The surgeon said that this is very serious operation and will require a lot of recovery (which I am prepared for). The risk of not having it done are as great as having it done. Her medical dr. is against it and I do not know what to tell my wife. I am at a total loss.

I wish I had some magical words for you that would make life easier. All I can suggest is that you talk to your wife, tell her the truth, and let her decide. You know your wife better than anyone else, you have been there for her through these tough times; and she knows you will continue to be there for her.
