Caregivers Support Group
A voluntary caregiver is a spouse, relative, friend or neighbor of a disabled person or child who assists with activities of daily living and assists those unable to fully take care of themselves. The challenges of a caregiver are unique and sometimes it's hard to find people to talk to who know what you're going through. Join the conversation and find others who...
For me there was both the sense of relief and despair. Thankfully in some way, I knew the end of my caregiving was coming a few months before the actual event, so I had time to prepare and go through the grieving process before the end.
When the time did come, I did just take it one day at a time. I worked first at removing all the caregiving needed equipment, and in nearly all cases, donated it to the local nursing home. Then came the closet cleaning and more donations. Finally, it was me time and the need to escape from it all for awhile. Now, it's moving on with my life, but at the same time, continue to work with other caregivers and try to help when and where possible locally as well as here on DS. After all, now I'm "experienced".
For sure, take it one day at a time. In some ways, divorce can mimic death in the "loss". Keep yourself busy, and do take care of yourself.
Hugs, Dan
As you know I am still a full time 24/7 caregiver. I can't imagine how hard this is for you. Dan has great advice, hopefully you'll reach your "safe-place" where things will come together and you can continue on with your life.
Many Hugs & Love, Phoebe :-)
I hear how hard this is for you and hope for the best for you.
Sending love and hugs.
