Hi,


I just joined and could really use a nice person or two to give me some advice. Let me start by letting you know that I was the sole caregiver for my Grandmother, whom I loved dearly. She has been gone for over a decade. This last year my Mother-in-law passed away suddenly. The situation has been terrible. There are three surviving children, my husband and his two sisters. My Mother-in-law cared for her Eldest daughter Maggie. Kelly, the middle daughter became estate executor. It has not gone well. I am hoping for advice and friendship from someone who understands caregiving and difficult family members. I will wait to hear a response before sharing more. I just want to make sure somebody is there to respond. Thanks, HillsOhana

We are here for you! I definitely understand what you are going through. My father died very suddenly without a will, and his brothers and sisters started taking his things before I could even get to his house (MY house!). Death certainly brings out some hard emotions and can make people lose their sanity when dealing with the details. It's very emotional. I was a caregiver for my mother when she died from cancer, and I know how hard yet rewarding that can be, too. Just let me know how I can help!

Being a caregiver is a loving but stressful time. Death is painful even when it is expected. The only thing you can control is your feelings, so try not to stress out too much because when you are calm, situations are a little easier to deal with. All you can do is to calmly offer your support and friendship. Let her know that you understand this is a difficult time for her. If you can get her to trust you, then you can offer suggestions.

Yeah this group is active, just not often we post anymore. I totally identify with what you said, I recently lost my handicapped brother. My mom was his guardian and in charge of estate stuff with lawyers but she is not doing well.
I am trying to ween her off. I was her caregiver for years while she recovered from knee surgery (poorly) and now she needs to let go. I'm having trouble because she is so spoiled. Would love to have someone to talk to about difficult family members. Message me anytime.
