I am new to this support group and thought I would introduce myself. I am a caregiver of my husband. He has PTSD, OCD, Bipolar II, and Dissociative Disorder. He is experiencing confusions, memory loss, and lack of comprehension. He tries hard to do well and does all right for the most part. His mentality is often that of a teenager, so conversations become difficult. His mental illness has impacted our relationship in many ways. I just try to roll with it day by day. I am thankful for our dogs as they help him throughout the day very much. I am finding the stress of it all is impacting my physical and mental health as well. I often just want to go out and experience more adventure in life, but find it difficult to do since there is no one to stay with him when I am gone...besides he believes he is fine. It is also challenging cuz he is so young...54...and I am young too...46. It seems like many years of life are being lost trying to live with these illnesses. The stroke left my husband aphasic, so our conversations are no longer really conversations, but strange and frustrating attempts to communicate....Mentally, he seems like a child, so I think I know how you feel. It is so very hard when you can no longer communicate with your spouse like you used to.

My son suffered brain damage following a road traffic accident. I yearn sometimes for a life without the stress of caring, i wouldn't be without my son but some days can be a real struggle. It is a lonely place to be but i hope you find encouragement on here as I have. People here really do care for each other x
