Caregivers Support Group
A voluntary caregiver is a spouse, relative, friend or neighbor of a disabled person or child who assists with activities of daily living and assists those unable to fully take care of themselves. The challenges of a caregiver are unique and sometimes it's hard to find people to talk to who know what you're going through. Join the conversation and find others who...
I'm sticking to what I said before. Take time to get your head straight and then look for someone healthy to spend time with. Being willing and able to take care of someone who is ill is a great thing. But I think maybe you've done it for so long with so many people that you've forgotten what it's like being with people who you Don't have to"take care of".
best wishes
Please, let go of the guilt, as you did not fail in your intention of being a good person. Your girlfriend/patient is the one unable to accept your caring & kind nature; for what ever reason she internalizes.
Always, always, always feel good about yourself for bring a caring & generous person!
Hugs & Love, MelodyJane
P.S. Captain- you always crack me up!
I try to help, support and cheer everyone on, people like Captain & Joshuaturbeville act like we are a joke.
Caregivers, stick up for this group please.
Phoebe
Dear Panda, where is the guilt coming from? Having had a heart attacki would suggest that you need to care for yourself. Perhaps if your relationship hadn't ended so badly you maybe wouldn't feel so bad. Perhaps you could visit to make ammends then let her go with peave in your heart?
MelodyJane
To Captain....you give great advice most of the time, we don't need the crude jokes please friend.
Hugs for everyone, Phoebe
Panda, you are such a loving a caring person to have dedicated all your time and did so wholeheartedly that the undue stress created a heart issue. I am so sorry but there is not a single thing you need to feel badly about. You have do e all you can do.
I was told the same thing as a care giver. "Look after yourself or you will be no good to the person you are caring for" I did the same thing and ended up collapsing and had an arrhythmia attack on my hear, almost died in front of my disabled daughter and had to have a pace maker/Defribrullator put in. I now take care of myself better and allow others to also look after my daughter and do so without guilt because I know in my heart I do all that I can physically do.
All we can do is our best and carry on. You have been an amazing support as well as help others on here. God love you! Peace in your heart and no bad feelings! Ok?
Big hugs xoxo Sandy
