Career Changes Support Group
This community is dedicated to the difficult challenges of transitioning from one career or job to a new one. Especially as we grow older, it can be very difficult to acquire the skills and relationships and take the financial risk to make the switch.
If I were you I would look for something less stressful but perhaps in the same field. Something like nursery nurse, school nurse, sexual health nurse, or maybe starting all over from scratch is another idea.
I have been reading "the pathfinder" and it has been of great help.
Maybe getting into an intership and/or gaining practical experience could help you decide what career would suit you.
Have you tried to talk to a counsellor advisor? I think they should be able to give you hand.
Best of luck and remember you made it and let me congratulate you for that!
Basically, you have to belive in yourself. You've got to have confidence or those around you can sense that you don't have confidence. In sales it's a killer. My early checks were really small and I spent days talking about what a lousy sales person I was.
I'm a religious person, and my pastor had many sermons on faith and the power of the tongue. Of course faith is described in the bible as the substance of things hoped for , the evidence of things not seen.
It's a simple concept. But what about the power of the tongue. That's in the bible too. Basically God spoke the words and then it happened. Notice that he didn't think the words. He said, "Let there be light," and there was.
What God did was an example to all of us. There truly is power in the word, so you've got to be careful of what you say.
So, back to sales. In my department, there are athiest, Muslims, Jews, Christians, and agnostics. And guess what, the most sucessful of them all beleive in saying only positive things. Didn't matter how they came to that belief.
An athiest in my group explained it. 'You say something bads gonna happen and it will. So every salesperson walks into the building saying I'm going to make a lot of money today. And if you disagree, they'll move away from you fast. They don't want to hear anything negative.
They actually believe that you can cause good and bad things to happen just by saying it. And this is not based on their religious beliefs, it's based on 20 years plus of experience in the sales field.
The same can be said of other areas of life. If you say you're worthless, not smart, etc, and you say it enough, it becomes reality. Sort of like talking yourself into it. And if you say it around other people, they'll start to believe it too.
Now, I've been in sales for 4 years. I'm on a floor where the higherst earner earns about 80,000 American dollars a year. I don't earn half that yet we're on the same floor. There are other's like her. So I kept asking, what am I doing wrong? Why can't I earn that kind of money?
They told me. It's because you don't believe it.
So of course I didn't believe them and another, less money year went on with me purchasing books on how to sale that didn't work.
So two months ago I finally decided to listen to my preacher and God. I realized the top sales people were right. I had to believe, I had to have confidence in my own abilities.
I had to have confidence that I was a good sales person. That I'm a worthy person and not inferior to the number one sales person. I started slowly, constantly saying aloud that I was going to have a good day. That I was going to make plenty of money. And I also said only positive things about myself.
That's the first thing you've got to do. Say only that you're worthy, smart, etc.. and don't say anything negative. Say it when you don't beleive it. Say it when you do. And after a time, it will become real.
Now, I'm enjoying excellent sales. I'm number 3 this month compared to my usual number 14. I'll only get better. And so can you.
