Hi, my job as IT Mgr is bng phase out and basicslly I was working on a old server model that's hardly used in the industry , and all programs were customed written so no experience in the latest software like SAP, FOurthShift, Sharepoint etc. So I decided to send my resume based on my older skills in Cost acctg. After many months of sending resumes out, I got a hit and a offer. The offer is good for the position, and the bonus plan is excellent, and they have a profit sharing plan, and I like the people.
Yes, the pay is much less than the IT Mgr pay but good.
The problem is it is 42 miles away (one way)
My thinking is this will cost me 6,000 in gas, and lots of wear and tear on me and the car. However, I also see this as one in the hand is worth two in the bush.
With the economy, my age at 62, and not being in accounting for 12 years, that it hards to let this past and I might have to suck it up. I did accept, but of course have second thoughts.
I know I could stay at my present job about 6 mth more, and no there is no severance for us. They may not be an opportunity like this again.
I am newly divorced so I do not have a second income coming in. The good new is, I rent, and my lease goes another 9 months, but at least I could move, but have many, many friend in the area, but if I did move, it would be only to be closer to the Xway. That could save 25 minutes in drive.
Opinions welcome. I thinking move ahead suck it up, and move later>].

Congrats on the position. I was in IT for 25 years. I was phased out ten years ago and never tried to get back in as there is so much age discrimination in that field and I wasn't getting any younger. Now I'm in sales and finding that I'm being slowly phased out again. I've nowhere to go. Great to hear someone over 50 has found employment.
