CLs, we may have an issue starting with folks

I'm noticing reliance on AI not only for answers (which is not great) but also for "care" and/or "friendship".


Does anyone have a strategy on this? Because AI is written by naturally stupid humans. And some of the programmers will code things that it's a violation to even type in this post re: Self-harm etc. I've also come across a study that indicates it hits brains like playing slot machines does, an almost psychotic need to keep using the AI in a few people.



So, if anyone has recommendations or questions or answers? I'd love to hear 'em. I really don't want to see AI become a problem for DS members in the "only my AI understands me" way. (Which, FYI, AI doesn't. It is programmed to agree with you. validation's nice, but sometimes you need someone to say, "PUT THAT DOWN, PLEASE!")

There's nothing wrong with putting posts up about it on different boards on occasion

Due to the changes in the system world-wide and the way technology finds over rides on everything, it's a difficult challenge.

I have spoken with several programmers about the way this type of exposure could create a 'chaos' situation, and their words were 'social media' and 'social profit'.

I've gotten notices about a few quirky 'AI' posts. However, following the 'rules of the road', I can only do what works within that frame.

My heart is with you about bringing it to peoples' attention, just be aware and cautious.

Thanks. I know people look for validation, and AI is show to prefer validation over a lot else In peop;le in deep depressive states, who may be suicidal, the AI validation was shown to be in one study "OK, great idea! Go (off yourself somehow)." Granted small samples, early studies, but if we as CLs keep an extra eye out and hope our boards don't fall to it? Cab'ntn do more than that

I don't think people are turning to AI because they prefer it over us, but because it’s always there and doesn’t feel judgmental. So instead of pushing them away from it, we can focus on offering what AI can’t, real human connection and shared experience.

AI may validate, but we can validate and guide, and that’s something meaningful. If someone feels “only AI understands them,” that’s really a sign they need more connection, not less. That’s where we come in.

I think thaty's where I was concerned, @bobinmaine. Validation can go ugly if it's not given with empathy. And AI has none.

Tips on ways to make sure we show empathy? I really do want to be as good a CL as I can.

    Once again I've had a fever today. I'm not going to the hospital because that's a huge waste of time but I did schedule a dr appointment for Wednesday afternoon.
