Bullying can be defined in many different ways, but one thing is clear: no one deserves to be bullied. So Im in my third year of university and have only really made one friend during Uni. We have stuck together since first year and have been quite close and this year we got a flat together in student accommodation sharing with two other girls.
I was really excited about the prospect of getting to know some people and we actually all got on pretty well. I attended the group nights out we had and even tried arranging a few myself (Inviting everybody) and I thought we were all getting along. However, one of the girls we moved in with started gossiping about the other friend to me and my friend one night, which I found very odd considering I thought theyd been good friends all this time. She was saying things like shes scared of her because she goes crazy if anybody uses her cutlery etc and shed accidentally smashed one of her glasses. And lots of other things.
This was a couple of months ago and since then Ive gradually been getting excluded from the group, and the friend I moved in with has told me the other girl (Who was being gossiped about) doesnt like me. Shes accused me of smashing her glass and stealing her plates, and that she wasnt looking forward to me coming back after christmas and that the other girl should be careful that I dont steal her milk. Shes even said something about me putting a spoon in the drying rack upside down and that I leave the kitchen in a mess (Ive actually cleaned it fully 3 times, she never has). These are just false accusations shes labelled me with. I feel like she didnt like me for whatever reason to begin with and has began putting me down for every trivial thing. She hasnt liked me after knowing me for around a month, and Im quite a quiet person.. I cant put my finger on a real reason shed hate me.
They all arranged to go out for a meal last night. My friend told me the day of the meal that theyd all planned it and kind of invited me, saying it was bad of the girl who doesnt like me not to invite me. (This was not the first time id been left out of plans, they even decided to make tea together the other night and didnt ask me when I was sat 10 feet away in my room). I decided not to go, due to not being able to afford it and generally feeling unwelcome. The other girl in the group didnt bother to invite me either which upset me a bit more, because i expected it from the girl that doesnt like me but not from her as shes always talking about Being the bigger person. Before they went out, they were all knocking on each others doors talking about what time theyd be ready for and what they were wearing and giggling. They were all aware that I was in the door next to them which was the most hurtful thing. Its one thing making plans and sneaking around- but they were completely shameless. The girl that doesnt like me apparently had digs at me all night and said to my friend I feel a bit bad that weve left her out! and I feel bad that were talking about YOUR friend haha and its clicked that although my friend tells me everything they say, she has not stuck up for me once. I told her I was upset that this other girl hadnt even bothered to invite me either and within 10 minutes of my friend seeing her, the girl came asking If i was okay.. so I knew shed said something. She told me It wasnt me or (MY friend) that didnt want you to come, it was (the other girl). I still didnt understand how they couldnt have just refused not to invite me when the other girl said, because it was mean.
Its a very awkward atmosphere now and I dont want to speak to any of them anymore, including my friend. Ill even hear them knocking on each others doors and going in each others rooms just to watch tv when im in here on my own. Although it is one girl that doesnt like me, its like the others have followed her and just dont bother to associate with me unless they have to. I feel like I cant actually say anything to the girl that doesnt like me because Im not supposed to know any of this and i dont want to get my friend in trouble- shes actually overly nice and smiley to my face. Any advice on this situation would be nice?

Would it be possible to leave this living situation at the end of the semester? That might be several more (painful) months from now, but perhaps if you knew you were leaving, the weeks would go by easier for you.
It's just awful that people act like this. Makes me mad and sad.
Perhaps if you kept your eyes and ears open to meet someone new, make a new friend, things would be a bit easier.
I'm hoping for the best because you deserve nothing but the best!
