Hi All
I know this probably sounds stupid - but I am having a really hard time right now with something. I am allowing someone to dictate how I am feeling and I am personalizing a situation that I feel that I created in a way.
Back in Aug of 2009 a friend of mine was having an issue with money. Long story short - I lent it to him for $500.00 in the hopes to have it returned by the end of Sept - stipulated in writing on a promissory note. I know what you are thinking - you idiot - why would you lend someone money? Well, I had feelings for the guy as well and my heart said one thing although my head would have said another. He did not pay me back fully - I had to threaten him to get me half of the money and I did not receive that part until Dec of 2009. I felt that this friendship was now more based on "getting my money back". I tried asking, kept brining the situation up - and it caused me much grief. A year passes, still no balance of the money. I was ready to write it off at this point. However, in the back of my mind I knew that I couldn't have him in my life. I finally had it in Feb of this year after giving him a 3 month "silent treatment". Not mature of me I agree, but he would not get the hint. Calling me endless times. He is the type that cannot stand people being mad at him and needs to be in control at all times. I finally came to the realization that I could not be friends with someone like this - and not only that - that I find out later that the money was only used for his drug addiction I had no idea about. I called him and told him that this friendship is not working and I feel its best to end it. He told me "all the best" and that was the end of it. I felt at that point a great weight was lifted off of my shoulders and that I could finally put this behind me and move on with my life. This person is master manipulator who works in the finance industry, sweet talker, and charming. Anyway that is besides the point. Three months later, I receive a text message from him. Stating the following: "Hi, well I realize that you don't want to be friends after you had ended it in your dramaticall fashion - you are a "dramatical" guy after all - anyway, I wanted to clean up loose ends and pay you back the balance plus 20% - let me know". Well, I didn't know how to take a text like that - #1 - he insulted me and #2 - He already told me that he would pay me back 4 times before and each time another excuse. He would flake out everytime before he would meet me. I know it sounds like I have issues here I am so sorry!
I am not sure what to think of this - now I feel depressed, stuck, and my power has been taken away again as I feel like he is in my head - its ridiculous. He has told me 4 times he would pay me before - and nothing happened. This really for me isn't about the money, its about taking responsibility and being respected - which I feel like I am not. I do feel a bit tormented by this and wanted to ask you people out there what you would do in a situation like this? Is it worth just ignoring and moving past, or should I bet the "good one" like I always am at forgiving and pretending everything is fine, and have my values stomped on? I have made peace back in Feb at writing off the money - its only $200 now left over after all. I wanted to point out that I did warn him in Aug of 2009 that if I did not receive my money back by Sept 30 that our friendship would be affected. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated as I feel like I am going to have an anxiety attack here.

If I were you I would demand my money back and keep tormenting my friend until I got it.
