I'm 16 weeks pregnant and still nursing my almost 15 month old. What I've done (u may already do this) is we only nurse now at nap time, bed time and morning (and if she wakes in night) another time she asks to nurse I feed her because I realized she was just hungry. I feel slowly "weaning" like this eventually she won't need it/want it anymore or I could be completely wrong

My son stopped on his own around the time when I was 5 mo pg and he was 17 mo. He only nursed for naps and bedtime and I started giving him a paci. He liked the paci and stopped asking to bf. I think that at that point I also had very little milk so it probably was not as appealing as before. If he wanted I'd have had him bf with the baby. I don't know if he may want to try it when the baby comes ...

I am in my second pregnancy also and my twins (14 mos at the time) were still nursing. I ended up having to wean them because between the nursing and the pregnancy I was exhausted beyond normal function. Our boys were stil nursing at night too, before they went to bed. For about a month, after nursing we would read a story or two (before they would just get brought to their cribs) to get them used to that routine. Then one evening when we brought them in their normal room to nurse, we just went straight to story time. They didn't even notice! We gave them water to drink while we read so they could get the hydration they were used to. And I don't think I even needed to pump to relieve pain or anything - whatever milk I was still making just went away.

this will probably weird u out, I have a friend that after having her second baby, still nursed the older one who was 14 months at the time. Now, one is almost 2 and the other one 3 and still nursing them both, and they fight over her breasts. And, I do mean fight with each other physically. The jury is still in for me!

Have you considered tandem nursing? It is a wonderful way to comfort her if ever she gets hurt or is sick. It is a nice experience for her to share with the new baby..something in common....I have tandem nursed all of mine....I really appreciated the fact that after my crash c-s and third son's 4 mth hospitalisation, that I had a "real baby" I could actually nurse....he was npo for the first 2 weeks of life. It also helped with my milk production, and I was able to never give him a drop of formula, ever.
