Breastfeeding Support Group
While breastfeeding is recommended by many doctors, it is not as simple as it seems. This is a community dedicated to parents who are choosing to breastfeed, providing a safe place to discuss everything from pumping, to questions of whether baby is getting enough, weaning, breast care, scheduling, supply, and more.
I was lucky enough to get 12 weeks maternity leave, but I wouldn't pass up the physical closeness we get by nursing for anything! Even those first 6 weeks babies love the skin to skin contact and soothing feeling of being so close and hearing your heart beat and listening to you breathing... Plus, it's so much easier to put baby right to the breast, rather than express, feed, and then clean up all the stuff.
That being said, I know many moms who pump exclusively so that dad can help feed right from the get-go, and they do just fine (and so do the babies!). You've made the right choice by feeding EBM, and however your child gets it will be just fine.
I know there's a group on here called "pump mom's" or something like that- I'm sure you'll get awesome advice from them!!
And to address your concern directly, I think that if you introduce a bottle after the first week or so, it won't take too much time for him to adjust between breast and bottle. They're very smart, adaptable little beings!
After a few sucks on the bottle, she gets use to the nipple and downs it in no time.
If you can, definately BF while on leave and then give him a bottle during the day and BF while you are with him in the evenings. Many moms do this and it works out just fine.
