I say GOOD ON YOU! It's sad that feel you have to hide such a natural thing just because society sexualises female breasts.

If I were you,I would have made a formal complaint against my doctor for a comment like that. Obviously he needs training on good health practices. I think you need a new doctor.


I'm already getting comments at 11 months. I laugh in the faces of people who comment. Their opinions hold no weight with me. I do what I feel is right (I want to let him self wean).

I absolutely have switched doctors because that was just highly offensive to me. I actually had a woman private message me in response to this post and actually told me I'm abusing my son. Good grief, he's 2, not 7!! There needs to be awareness spread ASAP about the many benefits of extended breastfeeding. Good for you for choosinto let him wean himself! What people don't realize is how selfLESS of a decision that is. It takes a special kind of woman :) who else could have a baby attached to their breast for that long?

I don't think I'll be breatfeeding at 7, but I still think its far from
'abusive'. I mean, in some cultures (the Inuits and in Moscow) breast feeding from 7-12 is viewed as pretty normal. I think 2-4 years old is NATURAL and HEALTHY and it should be normal. The world health organisation recommends that women breatfeed till at least 2. I nearly fell over when I read a list of the countless benefits for the baby (and mother) associated with long term feeding.

Tell that bottle feeder to shove that up there arse and tell them to do some research. How ignorant!!!


Good on you babe and well done!!! Just be secure in the knowledge that you are the educated, nurturing mum and the people who say its abuse don't know what they are talking about. Your baby would give up feeding himself if he didn't want it... You can't force a baby to feed!!!

I'm still nursing my 16.5 month old daughter. Luckily EBF is somewhat more common in this area--I know of at least 5-6 other moms around me nursing toddlers. I also have good support from DHs family--his mom and two SIL all nursed children for quite awhile. One is still nursing her 4.5 year old daughter and is going to have a new baby in two weeks! Unfortunately, my parents are the negative people in my life. I finally had to set firm boundaries with them where they are to say nothing about it to me, DHor DD.

Oh and the thing thing about accusing women of child abuse/molestation is likely one of the highest offense ive ever heard. I've heard people say that before and I personally think there is nothing more ignorant than that!!! I was abused as a child, so as an abuse survivor, and a BF mom, I know it's the opposite! You are nourishing and comforting your child--not forcing him to engage in a sexual act against his will. I am normally a peaceful person, but if I eve heard that in person i dont know if I could hold myself back....
