tomaxifen or not

after getting my results back from my mastectomy , i was told it was hormone reseptive and may need tamoxefin, i am postmenapausal , i heard thats not good and can lead to womb cancer if these tablets are uesd , i dont need chemo or radiotherpy , i spoke with oncologist and he said the fears outweight the the risks for most breast cancer patients , because i had dcis and was rather large erea thats why i have been recommended to take these , even tho its breast cancer stage 0 , all the cells they examined were pre cancer , none of it was full blown cancer , i am now confused has wheather to take tomaxifen , can anybody put my mind at rest , should i refuse and hope for a positive future , or take the risk of tomaxifen , i also had reconstruction , and healing well , again a mastectomy was suggested cos of the amount of pre cancer , after 3 opps to try and find a margin, which they didnt , no lymph nodes were involved

It depends on the the person, at work some patients go to have their ovaries removed.
I was given tamoxifen, and Evista, but my side effects were bad, since I was as a young woman I had a chemo induced menoupause.
My oncologist told me that my survival rate would go up from 70% to 73%,and I decided to stop taking them.
But I know many that are or were in the 5 or 10 years plan.
I had ductal carcinoma and lobular invasive.
One has to medidate and speak with ones oncologist and also your breast surgeon, since he/she is the one that diagnosed to make the decition to not take or take.
We are all diferent, and one does not want to make the wrong decition, and bell cant be unrung. Doctors know what is best for you.
Mine agreed to stop , because I had chemo.

I have been on tamoxifen for 2.5 years. Now, I recently had a hysterectomy but not cancer related. I had adenomyosis and fibroids and polyps, along with ovarian cysts. It's hard to know if these things were aggravated by the tamoxifen but I had all of those things prior to starting on it. I am continuing on it because I tolerate it well, so I am giving my self the extra boost, even though it is a small one. It is an individual decision. Good luck.

It is hard to say...Tamoxifen has so many side effects I cringe when I take it every morning...I had my first ultrasound this year after taking it for a year and 1/2 and everything is fine. But I do sometimes feel a twinge of pain around my ovaries..and wonder what it's doing to me...The constipation it causes is horrendous, and the "Menopause" like symptoms were unwelcome as well as Nausea. I sometimes wonder how the hell I will manage for those 5 years, but I am crossing my fingers.

I guess I am lucky because I remember sitting with the pharmacist for 20 minutes to discuss the possible side effects when I first started. I honestly don't feel anything. The only issue, like I said, was that it may have made my fibroids grow faster. Who knows...

One can choose to ignore, condone, or even enable wrongdoing and injustice which just perpetuates it. Others choose to do something about it by seeking the truth and speaking out. Of course, one has to understand and acknowledge that theres a problem first! Too many women are in the dark believing that they really needed a hysterectomy.

Since 76% of hysts do NOT meet ACOGs criteria for the surgery and hysterectomy causes lifelong damage, I choose to speak out so women can get the information necessary to make a wise decision. It's their choice if they want to ignore the evidence.

There is an new med on the market for post menapausal woman. It begins with an A. I just read about it in MORE magazine. I am 2 weeks into tamoxifen. Side effects somedays are wicked. Ask your doctor about it. It has less side efeects than tamoxifen.
