Today I had mapping of my breast to begin radiation therapy post-lumpectomy of rumors with malignant tendencies. These are phyllodes tumors, which are very rare breast lumps. My surgeon recommended radiation to help prevent their recurrence. The surgeon is at one hospital while the radiologist at yet another, due to HMO choices.
In my initial meeting with the radiologist, he said he didn't know what to do with me, as the previous standard for radiation with phyllodes tumor was limited to post-mastectomy recurrences. I showed him a study online supporting post-lumpectomy radiation showing good results. After meeting with his team of oncologists, they agreed radiation was the choice to make.
The radiologist is a bit standoffish and when I asked what was discussed at their pow wow, he simply said they all agreed with him. Agreed with what? To make me their sacrificial guinea pig? I've had an uneasy feeling about this man, and in the past I had a similar feeling with a different doctor and the results were a stillborn baby. The number of doctors in my HMO are limited to 50-70 miles away.

I do agree with Phoebe. There is a need of second opinion and I suggest you to ask each and every doubts of your mind to them, I am sure they will help you more.
