I watched the Dr. Mercola video and found it really good. He raises a lot of interesting things. However, I had my cancer found by routine screening mammogram at the age of 45, before the recommendations changed to 50. I had very few risk factors (we all have some), no lump, no symptoms whatsoever. Even my doctor had a tough time examining my "lumpy" breasts. I'm not sure what other way it would have been found if I hadn't had the mammo. I am happy they found it so early because all I needed was surgery. I had no chemo or radiation. What do you think?

Dr Mercola is not a medical doctor he is an osthophathy , O.D., I was diagnosed with breast cancer just 2 months after I had my 40 birthday; did not have a lump.
I do not have a risk factor, just like 85% of breast cancers diagnosed.
I do not have a medical history in my family of any cancer.
I just saw a TV personality on CNN ; her infertility doctor sent her at age 36 to have a routine mammogram before her infertility treatments started, no high risk, no family history.
She was diagnosed with early breast cancer.She is thankful she did, if she would have waited, she would have died.
Dr Martola makes a living of selling "health products" Has several lawsuits,just like many that peddle magi oils.
Having said that, one is free not to have a mammogram, treatments,etc.
But I would never post any information that is not proven 100% , what we know and it is proven is that early detention with mammograms and exams saves lives.
The 50 age was ammended. One can ask for a baseline mammogram at 25,it just depends of the doctor signing the order.

Thanks for the info, deraming. I wondered about his credentials. As you can see by my post, I too had no symptoms and was under 50 when it was picked up. Of course, I will continue with my mammograms. I always question what I read.

I was diagnosed though my routine mammogram and had a clear all healthy one the year before. There is no family history of breast cancer and I had no symptoms. I was 46.

If the new guidelines had been instituted back then I might be here and that really makes me angry as hell that people want to change things to less screenings and delay them.

Dr Mercola as far as I can tell is an MD. Whether you choose the scanning route or not is not my business. I am not out to change the direction you took or even to tell you how to proceed with your medical choices. You have a right to do what you want when you want and how you want.

I am only offering you more information. You can take what you want and leave the rest that is up to you.

I googled Dr. Mercola and according to wikipedia, he is an OD or osteopathic doctor, not an MD.

Hotmom, I am glad that when I was diagnosed there was no Internet with all kinds of information, maybe true,false, nuts,freacks etc.
At the cancer center I get angry and sad when because if irresponsable comments,advise,we see them too late.
I bet this OD makes sure to get his PSA every year.

deraming, why do you insist on trashing everything I write. You were correct Dr. Mercola is an OD. They are licensed to practice medicine in every state so why to you attack an entire profession.

If you want traditional medicine, fine go for it. But perhaps others would like more options. I am one of them and seeing where I have a high risk of breast cancer due to carrying the BRCA mutation and I don't have cancer I can research and make informed decisions while I still can. And the more I learn the less likely I will be to chose tradtional care.

I am glad the internet is out there and was 3 years ago. I feel it is important to get as much information as possible to make an informed decision. When I spoke with the oncologist, I had a lot of questions for her because of all the research I had done. We are adults who can make important decisions without burying our heads in the sand. We are not children who need others to make decisions for us.

Hi hotmom1, I too am glad I have done research and know about my options. I don't forgo all traditional medicine but I do believe their interests are not always in my best interest. That is me but I can't tell anyone else what they should or shouldn't do. So I agree with you.
