My next surgery plans

I spoke to my surgeon this morning on the phone. It seems there is extensive enough DCIS along with LCIS in my breast, found after the lumpectomy that he feels even another lumpectomy plus radiation would not ensure ridding me of risk, in the affected breast and the other one two.

I am now planning to have a dble. mastectomy with reconstruction.
Can anyone tell me anything about this?
What do the new breasts feel like? What is recovery time like, how long does recovery generally take....

Any info. would be appreciated!

Alll I know is what Ii've been told and read. I know that the recovery time is LONG. Your arms are very sore, and you don't do any reaching for a long time. Most of the time you come home with drainage tubes in you ~ they remain in for awhile. I don't know how long. You have dressings on too for awhile. I think they arrange to have a nurse come in daily to change the dressings/etc. The pain/soreness can last for quite awhile, so you're going to have to make sure you have plenty of pain meds post-surgery. Talk to your doc about this.

Cheri, as you know i've been throu the removal part so here goes.
for me i was well medicated.
had 3 drainage tubes and my right arm was not happy.
it wasn't torcher just uncomfortable.
i rested best sitting up with a bean bag to surround me( got that tip on ds ;-) )
i couldn't get new boobies because of how extensive the cancer was and she had to go back in to remove a bit more.
i was very pleased with my outcome and when i get through with my chemo i will go for the reconstructive surgery.
hated having to wait but, it is what it is.
you're still in my prayers girlfriend.

I haven't had reconstruction yet, it couldn't be arranged or I would have had it done then. I don't know about others but it was painful for a few days. Not so bad as I'd thought. The dressings were tight, the best relief was getting them off. It took a while to heal, for me 3 months but not painful, just no swimming this summer. The American Cancer Society was more than a help, they were a blessing. Fear is the worst enemy, put it in Gods hands if you can.
