well, first hello everyone.
i've been trolling since i found out 3/2 about the cancer.
3/3 surgeon said mastectomy (one was invasive, one noninvasive, with a bunch of buns in the oven of my breast-so to speak)
today spoke with plastic surgeon and got the deal on that end.
well, i'm feeling good (insurance paying for my FREE BOOB JOB!!!)
i don't like pain but to get rid of cancer is a no brainer.
it's weird that the whole thing started because i found that a lump i've had for years and found after my first breast feeding (went 9 years STRAIGHT of breast feeding 3 different kids born 3 years apart for 3 years each) became sore. my entire right breast became sore. and so i went for my first mamogram on a thursday.
well, that was a life saver and it barely hurt at all, went STRAIGHT to the biopsy and the following tuesday got the C news.
i can honestly say the only thing that shocked me was the mastectomy choice.
not that i don't understand it now but at the time i was thinking lump whatever it's called.
but then she said reconstructive surgery and i said "will my insurance pay for it?" she said they have no choice it's against the law for them not to. my reply well you know FREE BOOB JOB!!!!
and that's my silver lining.
i told my plastic surgeon i want my girls to say HELLO when i wake up even on my back.
i don't care who doesn't or does like it as long as I do.
well, that's it however i'm at the beginning of it all will update and hope to be of help.

Certainly getting rid of the cancer was the most important component, everything else is secondary. I go in 3 months for the completion of the reconstruction.....somewhere in there I'll be getting chemo, gotta heal first. I'm sure we'll be chatting along the way....is your surgery scheduled yet?

cant wait to get started though and called me construction guy (he's super cool) to find out if he would just go ahead and put implant in left breast as well because i want them to have the same gravitational pull.
he will take the muscle from my back and work it under my skin to my right breast with blood supply intact then put in a saline implant which he will fill on site. then of course the next 2 steps for my nipple construction.
I love it when a good plan comes together!
I have a temporary implant and I go back in 3 months for the permanent implant. He already told me he wants to take tissue from my other breast (make it a little smaller....that's ok)and use tissue from my other nipple to create a new nipple for my left one. Right now my left one is way smaller w/no nipple, it's temporary so I could live with it.
for those who dont know skin saving mastectomy makes a oval shaped cut with the nipple in the middle and takes everything out (in my case) from the collarbone and all other breast tissue so i dont have to worry about tissue expanders just how low do i want to go with my size.
im looking for a full volumpseous (how do you spell that word??) size c.
pray for me as i have seen some pretty bad outcomes along with some really good ones and inbetween.
and i will pray that we all get beautiful results whatever our preference.
understood with all that space in there.
im quite happy with my team from the surgeons to the nurses. so kind and professional.
i feel at peace with my decisions and that says a lot at this stage.
not that im not a little giddy and want to hurry up and do it.
and patience isnt my strong point and i did ask God to help me in that area.

called for the nurse yesterday and my construction worker called me back!
well i was shocked, i mean he is a wonderful doctor and actually gets on the phone with his patients?
gave me the info i wanted on the phone, but i had to practically beg him to do it. he really wanted to talk in person to make sure i understood. had to convince him twice i got it and was fine with his procedure.
man im blessed.
i pray you guys have such dedicated people on your team.
and i almost forgot the whole reason for this post.
i will have breast inplants too expand my skin, he will make my left breast smaller then when he puts in my final implant (right) he will implant the left.
my consern was i wanted the girls to gravitate at the same pace.
a little thing i know but the women in my family live into the 100's so just in case i want them to be even.
oh heck i just want them to be even! lol !
have fun ladies and gentlemen, the ride aint over until its over.
What are u good at? Do you sew? Cook? Bake? Maybe you could cook her a big pot of healthy comfort soup? Maybe you could make her a blanket to drape over her shoulders for warmth...maybe you're not good at any of those things and could just keep her company at times. Your support is invaluable, I wish you and your friend the best.
i am 44 with 5 kids (24,18,10,7,4) and i just told everyone what i wanted and needed from them.
my oldest child will help once he gets in from navy but thats in april.
my 18 yr old will help once she heals from tonsillectomy.
my mother is on nursing duty with me
my grandmother 87 is helping with the 3 youngest while husband at work and my stbx (long story) will take off a week to watch the kids but for the 2 nights i have to be in hospital they will stay with grandma since they dont like to stay the night with their daddy without me.
so yea, ask her. tell her you are there for her and of course pray for her and if she doesnt mind pray with her.
my prayers are with you and her.
you are a good friend.
dont forget she will be out of commission for a while, and my go through some depression and fatigue.
im new to this so just listen to your guts and when asked give her breathing room.
i am sorry she has to go through this i hope she has an excellent team to help her through this physically,mentally, and emotionally.
