This should be unbelievable. But it isn't. I recently learned that I have breast cancer. So ok we've got chemo, surgery, and radiation. Right,? Not for me. I had to have a rare kind.
There is only one kind of medication I can take. Estrogen blockers. I looked up the information on them. Get this, I am dying of cancer and they want me to take something that could cause, womb cancer, blood clots, eyesight changes like cataracts or changes in the back of the eye (retina) it is important to have regular eye check-ups while having tamoxifen. That is not all but enough for you to get the idea.
The payoff for this med is it might keep me alive for a bit longer. No years so probably months. Evidently my doctor didn't know this or he just didn't tell me. Am I am not supposed to know the prognosis for this charade?

Most take it from 5 to 10 years.
I understand your fear and suggest you take this slowly one step at a time like we must with CFS.
I just had breast cancer surgery and have an appointment with oncologist for radiation and medication treatments. The medications slow down the production of estrogen, which forms Cancer cells. My biggest fear is growing a mustache ... Lol. just trying to lighten your load here.
All medications have a Long list of possible side affects, to hedge the pharma companies.
Did you have a biopsy? Where is the Cancer located and what stage/type is it? I have a suspicion you may need more facts and those facts may not be as bad as you think right now.
Take deep breathes, be Gentle with yourself and Know you aren't alone here, for there are others with Breast cancer as well as CFS and other illnesses that can relate and SUPPORT you through this Dear Learnings.
As I mentioned I have to go to oncologist next week. With this disease one moves rapidly but very carefully with most surgeons and oncologists, for there have been many advances including the medications to replace chemo depending on your case.
Please know you aren't alone and make sure you are seeing only Cancer specialist.

You said "...I am dying of cancer and they want me to..." . It's like you accept defeat before you begin the fight. Some people have cancer and refuse conventional treatment, and they become cancer-free.

tamoxifin does have all those side effects listed. some people get some of those side effects and some do not.
I wont be starting tamoxifin until january of 2016. for 10 years.. its ok to rant, we spiral out of control when we hear cancer. i did.
