Why do you think that boats, the sea, and most storms are refered to as Her? It is considered bad luck to name a boat a man's name and boats are always refered to as Her. The same is with the sea and a lot of old sailors refered to her as a mistress.

Any ideas on this one?

Maybe because if you respect them and treat them right their power is yours to harness and enjoy...but if you don't, they will sink you, pull you down and destroy you.

All of my cars have been named "Him" because they have balls. "Him Quint" and "Him Quad" are sleeping in the garage right now.

The reason is that the sea is like a woman. She makes her own choices and you can't make her do anything. You can just go along with her and dance to her beat. She will bring you great joys and great sorrows. Most sailors love the sea like they love a woman. They respect her and care for her. THey treat her right and believe that she will treat them right as well.

I think it's because most boat-owners are male? (I am guessing... not sexist...) They'd better name that vessel after their significant other. Points. Earns points.

As far as the sea, I like that reason.

Storms I thought were A-Z. Many men as well, no?
