I work around a huge middle east culture and from what I have seen, its classic what you are saying in your summary of the relationship. One of my coworkers, female, talks all the time about eating right, exercising, but her husband only eats junk and doesn't care to do any of that. She is vegan he is a junk eating carnivore. She tells me stories about how their relationship is. Its like she runs everything, is everything for the kid and he doesn't do anything with them. She isn't complaining about it, she seems Ok with it as thats how it is. She just waves her hand and says, "eh, thats how he is." While I sit here wanting to scream, "why are you in a relationship with him!" But its their roles, its cultural and I don't understand it.
