I was talking to my soon to be 16 year old son this evening and he told me he started to date a girl.........I got off the phone and I broke down....My wee boy the same one who was eating sand in PEI when he was 9 months old is now becoming a young man.......why am I so emotional.....maybe because I realized who quickly life past you by and how precious moments are with your kids is.....I also think that maybe I thought this milestone in our lives would be shared as a family and not over the phone .........I'm just rambling....

BIG HUGS.....they grow up and perhaps you are feeling that he doesn't need you anymore.....bunk.....in time he will share more of his life with you then you can dream of......he will start a family and you will be the anchor. :)

Your his father / he loves you / he wants to share personal thoughts with you . Good for you. :) You sound like a good father. I have 2 boys and love when they tell me things. Nothing like asking your dad about things.

there's also this part in it, for me at least, the innocence, hope, clean beginnings without the jaded cynicism I have now at this age, and after these experiences

I can remember how sweet and fresh and unblemished love felt like way back in the beginning

it's a beauteous thing to see in my son's heart

and a little scary too.

if it makes you feel any better...you are a lucky man, your son talks to you and tells you his stuff.
my sons wont talk to his dad in spite of me asking them to.

Hugs, you seem like such a good and caring Father. Your children are so lucky to have such a sensitive and loving man to call their Dad.

I agree, sometimes when we are going through an emotional time, it hightens our sensitivities. That's okay though!! It is important to give yourself the ability to have these feelings. They are normal.

I think it's always an emotional time when you are confronted with the fact that your babies went and grew up, almost without you noticing! Just enjoy the ride! My son went to University 2 weeks ago and everyone was worried that I would miss him too badly but I love the fact that he is embracing his life and having such a good time doing it ( me = Facebook stalker to my son! ). I think it means you brought your children up with a good attitude that they can share such stuff with you and it doesn't really matter 'how' it's shared just the fact that it has been is a joy.

I hadn't thought about what it would be like to go through some of these ''far off'' milestones not as a family. I have custody of the kids. I can imagine how difficult this is on you.
