I think you can contact a mediator and have them draw up a stipulation for both of you to sign. then they will send it to the courts. In my state I think most mediators charge 600 dollars. not sure about Texas though.

In Indiana, it is mediation, you don't even need lawyers (but it is good to have one look over the agreement to make sure the i's are dotted and t's are crossed) once it is agreed on, it is sent to a judge, you both sign and it is over... we had a waiting period of 30 days.... I think it cost less than a hundred dollars.....

my exhusband got a kit from CityHall...I should ask him how much it will cost.

In Texas you can do mediation or collaborative divorce. I heard about the kits, but don't know anyone who has used them. The kits might not be useful since you have children.

Texas here...I had a very easy divorce. We had agreed on everything, we wrote out on a legal pad and signed it. I hired a lawyer and told her to put all that was agreed, on a decree. It cost 1,300.00.

Now, you can file it yourself. Go to your county court house and purchase the package. The filing fees should be around 600 to 700.

Or if you qualify for legal aide, you could get it for free.

How much is a death certificate?

While a "do it yourself" divorce can be cheap...you do get what you pay for. Divorce with children can be very complicated when all the "variables" are brought into play.

Do it yourself divorces rarely address some very important issues such as: disability or death of one of the parties, disability of one of the minor children, child support paid through friend of the court and a variety of other issues.

If child support is involved on either side this should be set up to be paid through the courts........a hassle yes, but in the event that the payer stops paying, the courts go after that person NOT the recipient of support. That alone can save you THOUSANDS later on.

Thats a good point courier, but we won't have child or spousal support on either side.

He is giving me full physical and legal custody with visitation, and I will be paying all child related expenses (I do already).
