I did everything I was not supposed to do. My 8 year old was acting up and I just blurted out about the divorce. He is very upset and I feel terrible. I texted my Stbx about it so he is aware. I have no excuse - that was poor timing and I should have waited for my husband to break the news. I just couldn't take all the fake ness...

I'll do you one better, in the beginning of the divorce I got upset and told the kids that their dad never wanted to have them. Mistakes get made. You're not perfect. Now forgive yourself, comfort your kid and go on.

Parenting isn't about any one day, nor about our worst day (unless your worst day involves some sort of abuse). It's about the whole 364 days that follow this one, and the next 10 years that follow that.

I'm 9 years past my divorce now. Both kids get along well with both of us. Both kids are doing well in school and life. My ex and I can talk and get along as old friends.

Koop I'm sorry- this is such a hard time. What's most important right now is your child. Can your stbx come over and you talk to him/her? Unanswered feelings may kill him/her. After that focus on you....next steps and how to proceed. Hugs!

It's hard not to slip and blurt out things. I get you, I still have not discussed what happen to us to my kids and they are 18 and almost 15. They are at an age where they are starting to see things for what they are. My son especially has ask me a lot of questions. He just wants answers. I so badly want to tell him what exactly happen, I'm sure he is starting to figure it out. He's already said she's always talking to different men. In time I will answer all their questions without bad mouthing their mom. Her affair had nothing to do with me, it was her choice. So don't worry about the slip up. The truth eventually all comes out.

Thank you all. I am now bawling in the corner of the house because I am so ashamed. I even said that all he cares is my money. All the books and advice online says not to say those things and I said it. I am a terrible mom.

The Stbx said he will be here in couple hours - he went out for NYE.

Please just forgive yourself and move on.

Get in there deep and think about what you
Did and why you did it, hand it over and let
It go. Really mean it when you are doing it.

Self forgiveness will be needed a lot During
this whole process.

Apologize for blurting it out and being Hurtful
to your son. You know the rest what to say to
