Just broke up with someone or in the midst of a difficult divorce? Breaking up is difficult no matter what the circumstances are. They say that time heals all wounds, but sometimes a listening ear or a hug can work wonders for the heart. Whether you need a place to vent, someone to hold you to No Contact, or need advice about what to do, we're here to help.
Why not wait a few years for the youngest to be 18 then date? really selfish and I hope you take the high road and at least you know your decision to leave is right.
Divorce is a sleeper and it hits the kids when they are 30. I hope they get good counseling too. I did that with my kids when I left their alcoholic (pedophile found out later) bum of a Dad. I have 2 kids in their late 20's and they both have a good head on their shoulder and no relationship with the Dad obviously
TIme is on your side WHN big hug to you and your kids
Yes, quit obsessing about your ex and his life and start focusing on you and your life.
In AUS we have to wait 12 months after separation before you can divorce, so I have to wait until Feb before I can make it official.
Kids contact him directly but as he didn’t have a great relationship with them they really don’t try hard to contact him...which he then asks me to intervene. I know it’s early days into our separation and I’m coming to this page to vent but I’m sure counselling will be helpful soon.
Xx
P.S Obsessing? Lol hardly! I’m just finding it hard to comprehend that the man who told me I was his ‘life’ be able to move on with someone else 3 weeks after he moved out of our home.
It was my experience that when my ex found someone new and realized I really wanted the divorce, things actually progressed faster. My divorce finalized more quickly than most people I know. Now is the time for you to take advantage of the situation, and figure out what you want out of the settlement. Maybe ask for a tiny bit more than what is fair, and he might just agree to it, because he's distracted by this other woman.
At 15 & 17, the kids can initiate their own interactions with their dad. If he wants a relationship with them, your role is mostly to not interfere. You can encourage it but he's the one who will have to win them over and earn their trust/respect/love (whatever he hasn't earned yet). If they want space from him, then they should have it.
My boys were 15 & 17 when I filed, so I know a little about this. Too bad about the one year wait period, that bites.
Anyways, I’m definately keeping the contact only in regards to our property and me and the kids go on holidays tomorrow (to Bali) so it will be nice to escape from it all.
The kids are doing well so far and contacting him (somewhat sporadically) direct which is great!
12 month period is to ensure that you have tried all reasonable attempts to reconcile....
Hope you and your boys are doing well!
