I am sitting here aboard the boat waiting for Hanna. Got all the deck hardware belayed, jib taken off, the dodger and mainsail belayed, and stripped the other things off of the boat. I double lined the dock lines and I am ready to ride out the storm. I am going to stay aboard the boat to make sure she weathers it okay.
Before you say that I am nuts, think of it this way. The boat is in a safe harbor in a slip. The winds are forcasted to be a maximum sustained wind of 40 knots (I have sailed through that one time when I got stuck in open water during a gale). The boat is the biggest asset that I have left and I am going to sit here and protect it. There are four other people on my dock hanging out to ride out the storm on their boats.
THe other good news is that the low tide will happen at the same time the main part of the storm passes my area. That means that it will counter the worst of the storm surge so it will only be 2-3 feet of water above the high tide mark if the storm surge is 5 feet with a 2-3 foot tidal differance between low and high tide.
This should be a fun adventure. I will keep you guys posted!

I know what I am doing here. Not is like I am out at sea in open water. Trust me....there are other people doing this too.
Now if this was Ike and it was a Category 3 hurricane.....I would have my butt up in the mountains!

In all seriousness...I am here to protect it from the tide influx, adjust the dock lines, and fend off any boats that come free. All that plus the adventure of riding it out and the bragging rights that will come from that.
I am still trying to build up my bad boy points!! I lived on a boat for a while...planning to ride out a tropical storm on a sailboat...come on yall...Got to get that bad boy image because the good guy thing isn't working for me ;)
