He sounds like a very smart young man wanting to go into military or be a engineer.
He's also a straight A student, musical, physically active, social and a respectful kid.
So I'm not worried about him.
I might, if I were you, talk up the constructive uses of explosives in terms of careers (mining, demolition, avalanche control etc) rather than the destructive ones.
But, yes as the oldest of 6 I can tell you that is one of those things that boys do. However, the explosives may be curiosity or some false bravado to prove that he is "the man of the house". If he does anything else dangerous take him to therapy.
There is a difference between impulsive curiosity and a blatant disregard for the safety of others. You certainly don't want your BF's 8 year old to get hurt as a result of some half-baked idea involving explosives.
I certainly hope this was just curiosity.
Part of the problem arises from his dad regiments his life. When he's at my house, I let him have friends sleep over, take him and friends to water parks, and let him experiment, with adult supervision. He knows where the fire extiguishers are, has one with him, just in case and does use all caution.
If I 'ever' get to meet my boyfriend's son, it will be a cold day in He**! His wife called off the divorce because she didn't want to share custody - heaven forbid, let another woman take care of him.
My son has issues with my boyfriend, and I know it's stemming from my ex, and estranged daughter.
After the latest exchange, my boyfriend is scared to be around if my son, or my ex might be around.
I'm trying to figure out how to explain to son that he's #1, but I also need to be happy.
