I'm almost 40 and still live by the heart. Unfortunate, the time that was lost. I gave up my all, and sacrificed a deal more. Yet, I end up loving those, who only stick around to gain more.
We travelled from across the country, your 2 yr old child and I. You promised a couple of forevers, so I fell for the dream this time. You said it would be great, she can learn of her family. That everything will work out fine, your parents were ready to meet me. Just to find out, it was all a lie. They never knew of their granddaughter, and you needed me to survive.
I suppose the latter is true...need me, indeed. Shortly thereafter, just to tell me that being a house husband, is what you've always dreamed. You said we'd work together, build a life, starting anew. Now I'm conflicted, because we're stuck here, gave up everything, thank you.
Since I've been here, I've hustled hard. Foot to the pavement, even got you 2 jobs. Yet there's so much sarcasm and push back, you would've thought that I did you wrong. And despite my intellect, you believe that I'm so dumb, that my insecurities aren't justified, that I should find a better someone. Treating me like I'm undeserving, when I'm the one holding the smoking gun. But you don't care, you even swear, that you can do without me, like you're the chosen one.
Been holding you down since our arrival, you act as though you were the prize to be won. I told you from the very beginning, that I know exactly what I want. So you decided to play the role, like you were really down for us. Searching for other women in our town, saying that you were just curious.
I was in, 10 toes down, from the moment we arrived in this state. Anything I request, you turn down, saying that you were born that way. Never interested, always judging, name calling, never believing you're wrong. Money is being spent, I'm the only one working, I deserve to have what I want. Never disrespect you, always uplifting, checking on you, to make sure you're ok. And even after all of this, you choose not to reciprocate.
But I digress, I made this mess. My nights have been filled with regretful tears. A painful plight, forced to take flight, can't allow our daughter to continue to witness this.
I've always been a fighter, an advocate for the world. It's unfortunate that no one is fighting for me, especially in my own 'home'...
