Today I find myself sad for my daughter, who is discovering for herself what a SOB her father is. I know he's a piece of crap, and I'm divorcing him because of the many times and ways he's hurt us. But, I don't bad-talk him in front of my daughter. I don't need to. She's finding out all on her own how irresponsible, selfish, and deceitful he is. It is breaking my heart all over again. She's 16, so she isn't charmed by him anymore. Now she sees through his bs and is so hurt that he can't make good choices for himself or for her. I just wish I could wave a magic want and make her hurt go away.

The curse of coparenting with a jerk. Hugs I'm so sorry for both of your pain. It sucks to see our children hurting. And I know u just wanna smack him and wake him up and say she's the most precious important thing in ur life stop screwing this up! But you can't and it wouldn't make a lick of difference even if you did (but you can enjoy the fantasy now and then-maybe with a frying pan ;) be her rock and her safe place and hold that higher ground where she can rant about him but be careful not to rant too so she feels she has to defend. You are doing great and I am sure that one day she will look back and be grateful.

Please don't be sad for her. Be happy for her that she has her Mom and that Mom will be the best she can be for her daughter.
I did not have a father and my mother was only interested in me when she could take something I loved away from me.
Please, be the best you can be for her and she will feel loved and everything will be OK!!!!

I, too, have a 16 yr old girl and a loser ex-husband. I feel the same as you..so sad for both my kids. Like Gigglemom said..it's the curse of coparenting with a jerk. I am my kids rock. It's so much harder doing the job of both mother and father but so worth it. She will come out just fine if you are a great example for her. She's lucky to have you
