I was getting gas this morning and ran into a former coworker. An amazing woman one year from retirement. I haven't talked to her in about a year. I asked about her retirement plans. She said, that ain't happening. I am in the midst of an ugly divorce.
I could not have been more stunned or saddened. 28 years together, two amazing grown children, 5 grandkids and they had plans for the future.
The asswipe comes home one day and says, I am leaving you. I don't like you, have not loved you for a long time. Poof, gone.
I nearly went to pieces over her story...and she is clearly still wrapping her head around it.
She comes to find out, he was taking money out of his military retirement account and having a house built somewhere.
She asks me how could she not know that. Honey, you trusted him. You were talking about retirement and selling the house and moving. He is a piece of crap and trust me, the loss is His.

I am somewhat grateful there was no financial issues with my ex, the majority of anything of value is the house and she walked away from it willingly since I paid for it and maybe she felt guilty, who knows? I am seriously getting to the point of being more at peace not being in a relationship right now. The thought of starting another one just doesnt appeal to me, putting up with someone elses bullshit and all that goes with it. After 24 years Im gonna hang for awhile, if something happens great, if not thats ok too.
I really feel for her, I could tell, being the fighter of a woman that she is, that she has no clue, the pain that is ahead of her. She is going to put the pain on the backburner.
Nothing against men but really now?
I think running into your former coworker at this time was not a coincidence. Maybe you can help support each other in the future. I think you have been a great source of support for many people here :)
