It was not in any way that I wanted my ex back in my life. I just really did not enjoy the fact of having to cope with it alone. Really set me back majorly for a day or so, and made me realise that I do not want to have to deal with the rest of my life on my own.
I know I am capable of doing it, but I just really do not wish to consider that I may have to spend the rest of life on my own.
I think it is just when something traumatic happens it accentuates the aloneness feeling.
Luckily I found something to do to distract myself and it didn't take too long to get back on track again.
I hope you soon manage to get back onto your positive forward moving and recovery. Find something to distract you from your thoughts and allow you to get back on track again. Try not to wallow in that feeling. It is not necessary Cory you are wanting back, it is just that it would be nice to have someone supportive around just to help you cope with it.
I am so sorry to hear of your son's injury, and I hope that it heals quickly and fully. It is scary when that kind of thing happens and there is the worry of permanent damage, especially to someone who has their whole life ahead of them. At least you know that you took good care of him and had it properly checked out.
First off, I didn't realize where Newark, NY was located. You're not all that far from me. I'm in Baldwinsville which is a tad west of Syracuse. I was out to Waterloo twice over the past week and a half for work meetings.
As far as her sneaking back into your head, it's going to happen. That's unavoidable and it's only being human. We are not robots or computers. As time marches on this will happen less often.
Here's an analogy, and maybe you can try to put it into practice the next time. When meditating, it's just not possible for random thoughts to pop into the head. It's not even desirable to stop them from doing so, as it's quite impossible. However what is possible is to detach from them. To not engage them. To observe them dispassionately without being judgemental or critical. Then gently pull back to the focus of meditation.
In your case I think that would be acknowleding you still have these feelings running through you, but don't engage them and get into thinking you're weak, or that you slipped backward. Don't allow the thought to be some kind of negative judgement of you and your ability to let go. Then bring your attention to the actual problem at hand, in this case your son.
Like meditation it will be a process. Don't worry about when this will cease and you will be 'cured'. Just know at some point you will get there. The important thing is the process of how we handle each and every instance and in the moment it occurs.
Hang in there and be easy on yourself. You are making progress, it's just not easy to see the forest for the trees right now.
Take care and I hope you are all doing well..
Jim
