Breakups & Divorce Support Group
Just broke up with someone or in the midst of a difficult divorce? Breaking up is difficult no matter what the circumstances are. They say that time heals all wounds, but sometimes a listening ear or a hug can work wonders for the heart. Whether you need a place to vent, someone to hold you to No Contact, or need advice about what to do, we're here to help.

Therapists are very helpful with that issue.

I would say we are victims because if you look at the definition of victim "a person harmed, injured, or killed as a result of a crime, accident, or other event or action. a person who is tricked or duped" that's fit the description. I don't think being a victim is a bad thing. Once we recognize it, we can seek help for it.
First of all I think callIng someone with abandonment/rejection issues a "masochist" is a generalization. I was abandoned by the people who should've cared for me to the care of a narcissist when I was only a child. I speak from experience. Whenever I got into the type of relationship you speak of I wasn't looking to be hurt in order to feel pleasure. I just didn't have the right examples of healthy relationships when I was little so it took me a few failed relationships to get to the point of
1- letting go of any feelings of guilt or responsibility towards the people who abandoned/rejected me (since I was too little to even have a saying on anything)
2- realizing my feelings and my happiness are MY responsibility. So I don't need other people's approval to feel "good" and I can and should walk away from any unhealthy relationship.
I'm not a therapist. I know there's much more to this. Again I speak from my own experience.
What made me start realizing all this was a simple decision I made a while ago:
I decided to be happy.
After that it all slowly made sense to me. It takes strength and discipline to be happy but it's been worth it.
