Had a brief discussion with my ex on our agreement - I was very surprised. He doesn't want to commit to regular visits and he's not going to be around our home town much aymore, spending time with his work and in another community where his OW is.I'm shocked - I didn't think he would move and leave his son behind with no commtment to visit other than "when I can". How strange is that? He always use to say he wanted as much time with our son as possible. So I will truly be a single parent with no help from him, and no family support in the community where I live. Crazy.

I don't even know what to say. I know how hard this will be on you and I know from my experience of having an absent father what it will be like for your son.
As a parent we all should know that our children need us no matter what, but some parents live in a life that is too self-centered to see this.
How old is your son?
Have you considered moving someplace closer to your family and friends?

Unfortunately this behavior isn't so uncommon and it's not gender specific but does seem more common among men than women. I've been a single mom for 22 years...you will be fine, I promise. I raised my son with no involvement from his father (financial or otherwise) and he turned out very well. He's a gifted athlete, will graduate from college this spring and has had the same girlfriend for 7 years. She graduated from college in December. I own my home, went back to school and finished my bachelor's when he was a senior in high school and I have a good job.
Your son is clearly your first priority and you're strong...you will rock at this.

I can't even comprehend this. I'm sorry I settled on Tuesday and every other weekend as a compromise, because it is not enough time with my son. Every minute is precious and they grow up so fast. How can you just walk away from your child?

I don't understand it. You would think he would want to be close, accessible. My son is 13 and autistic,but high functioning. sucks.

I am so sorry that your STBX has decided not to be the man/father he should be. I did want to add some advice. I have a co-worker who has an autistic son as well. Because of his autism she was granted extra child support and for longer than the norm (I believe she receives support for the rest of his life) plus the dad must keep insurance on her son and pay his doctor bills. Just something you need to keep in mind when speaking with your lawyer. I know you are not in the states...so things may be different where you are at!
