Just broke up with someone or in the midst of a difficult divorce? Breaking up is difficult no matter what the circumstances are. They say that time heals all wounds, but sometimes a listening ear or a hug can work wonders for the heart. I could never have a relationship with an EX if she truly becomes an EX. For me, what's the point? I suppose if one has kids, it's a little different because the couple would still need to discuss parenting issues, but if the couple never had kids, I don't see how the couple could stay friends after a divorce.
There is a male version of this show called: Gary Unmarried. It lasted two seasons--was also on CBS. It's about Gary and his divorced wife maintaining a friendship even after a divorce.
I think these TV relationships/friendships are completely contrived. I can understand still being friends before the divorce is final--at least for one party who may still want to work things out--but once the papers are signed and the couple are truly EX's then I can't see how one can continue being friends with the other. Why get a divorce in the first place?
The idea of two people being able to be friends but not able to be a married couple is a bit contrived imo, especially if they were indeed married at some point. I can understand friends who can't marry because one party is not romantically interested in the other and so they remain friends--that I can understand. But once there is a marriage between friends, then a subsequent divorce, and they continue to be friends after the divorce, that just seems contrived and unbelievable to me.
My first marriage of 10 years, once we divorced, we never kept in touch. I don't even know if she's now married or not. I'm not her enemy, but we're not friends.
I also don't think I could ever see myself being in a relationship with a man that was always running to his EX with everything either. Getting along good for the sake of the children is great, being best friends with each other after the marriage is over and you are with someone else? Too much for me that's for sure.
