I think I'm finally ready to get the paperwork started and make this separation (we are currently separated and I now want to be divorced) legal and final! (took me a LONG time to get here)
I've been researching lawyers and researching the process for doing it myself. The problem is I'm going to have to pay for this (and I'm broke and in school) so I'm not sure how to make this happen quickly, cheap and as painless as possible.
We are in agreement on everything, BUT...there is a pension involved and military school benefits (I know what I'm entitled to and what we agreed on) but I just can't figure out how to get this done!
This is very frustrating since it's been so hard to get to this place.
Suggestions, thoughts, comments, experiences? (I am in Illinois).

It included my mention of 401-K and the thread where cheryt and I posted a while back about how 401-Ks.
Once they are advised you are divorcing, the fund is usually frozen for a set period of time. I found an article and talked about it in the thread I posted on the "divorce decree post" where the plan admim. refused to release it without a specific order from the court judge. That's why you need an attorney. To have them cover all this stuff you may not consider. You want it all wrapped up at the divorce and not have to come back before the judge a few months later because you didn't include it in the divorce. Get the attorney to represent you as it will be worth it in the long run and they will do it all properly.
